Making wills on line – good idea or bad idea?
Making a will can be an intimidating process, the tough
decisions and grim topic made no easier by solicitors' fees and
impenetrable legal jargon. With this in mind, it's no wonder so
many are opting to make wills on line, using one of the many
websites which offer free advice and templates.
But are these wills on line services worth your time?
The problem with sites that purport to offer the chance to make
wills on line is that they are limited by what they are. A wills on
line service cannot make sure your will is legally binding or check
that there are no loopholes or small mistakes that could cause big
problems for your loved ones when the time comes.
Making wills on line may be a good way to draft your will if
your last wishes are not particularly complicated - but even then,
a qualified legal expert should check it over to ensure its
validity. And if your affairs are particularly convoluted, a wills
on line service may be of no use at all.
Your best bet is still to consult a solicitor, rather than make
wills on line. If you are concerned about fees, there may be help
available for you - for example, you may qualify for legal aid in
cases of financial hardship or if you are over 70 years of age.
