On line will services – and whether to use them
If you're concerned that you haven't written a will, and are
worried what would happen to your loved ones when you pass on, you
may be tempted by on line will services.
These on line will sites promise a quick and easy way to create
a will, so as to avoid paying a solicitor to draft one for you. But
is an on line will a good idea?
If your affairs and the inheritance of your estate are fairly
straightforward, an on line will service may be a good first step
for making a basic draft of your will - but you should still have
it checked over by a legal expert afterwards.
The reason for this is that if you simply make an on line will
yourself and do not have it looked at, you may be unaware of
loopholes or omissions that are likely to cause problems for your
beneficiaries after your death. You might also not realise what you
need to do in order to have the will legally recognised.
If your situation is more complicated, an on line will is likely
to be insufficient for your needs. You will probably need to
consult with a qualified legal advisor. If cost is a concern, there
are options available to you - with so much on the line, it's worth
putting some time aside to consider the possibilities.
