Help with drafting wills
There is a great deal of confusion over the matter of drafting
wills - do you need a solicitor, or can you do it online or with a
pre-made kit? Can you put one together just by following a guide?
What if you can't afford legal advice?
Websites and kits for drafting wills can be fine for drawing up
a basic version of your will if your situation is a reasonably
simple one - but even then, a will is not the kind of thing you
should leave up to chance.
Drafting wills is still difficult and a simple mistake or
misunderstanding on your part could have dramatic repercussions for
your loved ones later in their lives. If you use a will-drafting
service it is still best for you to have the result checked over by
a legal professional.
Drafting wills if your situation is more convoluted - if you own
a business, for example, or have children from a previous marriage
- can be nigh-impossible with these simplified forms and guides,
and really does require that you consult a solicitor. Even if you
feel you cannot afford to, you may be entitled to legal aid to help
you through it.
Our free Wills guide takes you step by step by the process in
far greater detail, so take a look.
