Should I use DIY wills?
Making a will is a necessity for many reasons. However, it can
be a complicated process, and seeking advice from a solicitor may
be expensive. This is why there are many DIY wills available
nowadays. But are DIY wills a good idea?
DIY wills may promise to make the will-writing procedure cheap
and painless, and might seem like a good approach if your
intentions are fairly simple. The problem with DIY wills is that it
is easy to make small mistakes or misunderstandings, and minor
errors which wouldn't be a problem in other things may escalate
into a disaster when you are no longer around to clarify your
meaning.
If you are going to use a DIY Wills kit to lay out your will,
you should be sure to have a qualified legal advisor check it over
afterwards - or simply have them draft it for you in the first
place. Seeking legal advice can be expensive, but there are better
options than DIY wills out there.
