What are consumers’ rights regarding faulty goods?
Consumers' rights, as laid down in the Sale of Goods Act 1979,
regulate any purchase of goods from a retailer, but often dealing
with the actual retailers can serve to confuse you about what
rights you actually have.
Did you know that if you purchase faulty goods from a retailer,
consumers' rights state that they MUST offer you a refund provided
you request it within a reasonable amount of time? Or that, even
after a greater period of time has elapsed, you are still entitled
to receive repairs or replacements of faulty goods free of
charge?
Often shops will try to get around these obligations by claiming
they have a different policy, or tell you to direct your complaints
to the manufacturer, but consumers' rights state that they are
legally responsible for fixing the problem and you should not allow
them to tell you otherwise.
