UK holidaymakers opting for cheap holidays within the UK may
actually be paying more than those travelling abroad, according to
a survey.
Research by Tesco Bank shows that it can be cheaper to fly
out to sunspots such as Turkey or Greece rather than to take a
domestic break, thanks to the extortionate prices charged by
British resorts. The research also suggests that visiting eastern
European countries such as Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria are even
more cost effective.
In carrying out their survey, Tesco Bank compared the costs of
various holiday locations by estimating the typical cost of each to
a family of four in August, based on factors such as accommodation
and eating out.
The prices calculated by the survey did not include the cost of
flights, but there was such a chasm of difference in the prices of
UK resorts and some foreign destinations that the UK holidays were
still more expensive even after the cost of a cheap flight, e.g.
from a budget airline, was added.
The euro exchange rate has been offered as an explanation for
this unfavourable comparison, and John Howells from Tesco Bank
advised travellers to pay attention to the overall cost of the
holiday besides the travel.
Holiday bookings are on the rise as people look to flee abroad
to escape the gloom of England's World Cup exit, according to
lastminute.com.

"I just had to put pen to paper and write to say I'm more than delighted with my settlement that you won me back from my PPI I had with Lloyds TSB. The Claim Forms were simple to fill in. It was a breeze"
