The newly introduced boiler scrappage scheme, which aims to replace the less-efficient G-rated boilers with more eco-friendly boilers, has been greeted with overwhelming interest and support from householders, energy companies and boiler manufacturers alike. Since the scheme's launch in early January almost 400,000 interested Britons called the Energy Saving Trust with enquiries.

The boiler scrappage scheme will provide 125,000 householders with a ₤400 voucher which entitles households to a ₤400 discount on a new, A-rated boiler. The new boilers are expected to decrease CO2 emissions and, considering domestic heating is responsible for almost 14 percent of CO2 emissions in the UK, the boilers could cause a drastic drop in already soaring emission rates.

In the spirit of positive change energy companies have also added to the success of the government boiler scrappage scheme. Energy company Scottish and Southern added their voice to the boiler scrappage scheme by matching Government's ₤400 voucher offer. This means householders could save up to ₤800 on their new "green" boiler.

The revolutionary boiler scrappage scheme will also assist householders in cutting their energy bills by almost ₤200 per year, making the idea of limiting CO2 emissions even more attractive.

Boiler manufacturers are also benefiting from the boiler scrappage scheme. "The scheme is helping . . . to sustain work for the 130,000 installers and up to 25 UK-based boiler manufacturers throughout the economic recovery," Energy and Climate Secretary, Ed Miliband, stated.

The government boiler scrappage scheme is a much-needed project in the UK, where almost three million homes are currently using G-rated or worse boilers. The boiler scrappage scheme will result in a cut of approximately 140, 000 tonnes in CO2 per year. This amount equates to almost 45,000 cars taken off the UK's roads.
