1 in 7 moves motivated by neighbour disputes
By Elliot Wright, 4th December 2009
Noisy neighbours have caused tens of thousands of people to move
house over the last two years.
Up to 92,500 home owners in the UK decided to relocate due to
disputes with nuisance neighbours, according to a survey by Abbey
Mortgages.
Disputes ranged from noisy television sets to more serious
situations such as neighbours failing to disclose major
redevelopment work on their adjoining property.
Homeowners are required by law to declare any disputes they've
had with noisy and nuisance neighbours when selling their home.
This is to avoid buyers being caught by surprise after moving in
and launching claims for damages.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, director of Abbey Mortgages, said: "The
saying 'love thy neighbour' seems long forgotten as so many of us
plan to move each year just to get away from those next door.
The survey also revealed that 6800 homeowners were forced to
downsize due to financial difficulties.
However, many people also moved house for positive reasons with
one in three households upping sticks to climb the property ladder
and one in five to have more space.
Other popular reasons for moving home included relocating to a
new job and moving into a better school catchment area.

"I just had to put pen to paper and write to say I'm more than delighted with my settlement that you won me back from my PPI I had with Lloyds TSB. The Claim Forms were simple to fill in. It was a breeze"
