Is it just me or are the headline fares for low cost airlines
becoming more and more silly?
I just booked a family flight to Bezier from Bristol and
the booking process started well but ended badly.
We are visiting our friends who live in a little place called
Florac and the headline fares are £9.99, (cheap as chips
almost)..But after I had been through the booking steps
the total fare was £560!
I was lured in as many by the promise of cheap flights but then
conceded to the airline that we would inconvenience them by
requiring extravagant extras like baggage. Thats right - not
a 12 ft surf board or sea kayak, or even skis - 2 bags for our
clothes. They cost an extra £30 each.
We were then required to opt out of travel insurance. It
doesn't ask do you want it or not, it makes you click on a drop
down menu with the term 'no travel insurance required' somewhere in
the middle.
Then the icing on the cake was the admin fee which I believe was
£30 because i paid with a credit card! I am sure this is all
legal but my local sandwich shop says they need to charge me 50p
for purchases under £5...surely if I am spending £530 plus this
could be waived.....? Perhaps, but its all part of the
machinery to rinse my froogle wallet. I guess it worked as I
did click the 'complete purchase' button.
As I said I am sure this is all quite legal but do be on guard
against headline grabbing numbers like £9.99.
