It's well known that traffic wardens rank somewhere between
swine flu and Gordon Brown in the popularity stakes amongst
Britons. It almost seems to be a daily requirement for newspapers
to contain a story about how some jobsworth in a silly blue coat
has unjustly slapped a law-abiding motorist with an extortionate
fine for doing something innocuous like park their car while
wearing a stripy tie.
Just the other day John Haffenden, an OAP from Peckham, was
issued with a fine while he was purchasing a ticket at the pay
& display machine. Meanwhile, in Glasgow council chiefs were
blasted for penalising a cancer sufferer after a he was caught
short and parked his car to use a loo.
These fines are more often than not indiscriminate and unfair,
and for years the councils have been getting away with it. However,
their cash cow has now been put out to pasture as thousands of
motorists are getting their fines overturned on appeal.
Recently, in Crawley, it was reported that of 1,182 penalties
given out 611 were overturned after motorists pointed out that the
fines were incorrectly issued.
It is relatively easy and straightforward to fight your fine if
you feel you have genuine grounds for appeal. For example if the
signs in the area were unclear, the information on the fine was
incorrect, or if you had a valid ticket displayed, then the odds of
a successful appeal will be in your favour.
So if you've recently been slapped with a fine then do something
about it. Our
free and comprehensive guide will tell you all you need to know
on how to avoid paying your parking fine.
