BA Cabin Crew Strike and Unite

by Bradley Askew 08 March 2010

British Airways cabin crew strikes are soon to begin.

I know I am not the only one who is thoroughly confused and concerned that Unite  (the trade union), may only be interested in 'winning'  for its own reputation's sake rather than the bigger picture.

British Airways has countless problems;  The price of oil is heading sky high once again, other competitors are  subsidized by their governments, there has been a global financial crisis so many are not travelling as much as 3 years ago and  then the real issue that is at the epi-centre of this shaking is that BA staff already get paid about twice as much as Virgin and others.

The other monster in the room that we should try not to mention for now is that BA has a pension deficit to the tune of about £3 billion.  IN fact in the city BA is often described as a delinquent pension fund with a troublesome airline alongside!

Now that I have a set a context for the strikes perhaps you can join me in offering support to the head of British Airways (Willie Walsh) who is doing everything he can to save this institution.
